Ear Aesthetics

With otoplasty, also known as ear aesthetics, it is possible to improve congenital or acquired visual problems in your ear. Ear aesthetics is basically the process of reshaping the auricle.

All procedures performed to make the auricle more natural and aesthetic are within the scope of ear aesthetics. There are many techniques applied in ear aesthetics.

What is Ear Aesthetics (Otoplasty)?

Otoplasty is an aesthetic operation in which the shape of the auricle and the angle of integration with the ear can be changed, which can be applied to anyone who is not satisfied with the shape of the ear. The appearance that disturbs the patients may cause negative situations and self-confidence problems in their social lives. The aim of the ear aesthetic operation is to protect the anatomical natural structure of the ear and to intervene in proportion to the patient's face shape and head size. Thus, a more aesthetic appearance can be obtained compared to the past.

How Is Ear Aesthetics Performed?

Otoplasty operation is performed under general anesthesia. In some patients, it can also be performed under local anesthesia if the aesthetic doctor deems it appropriate. A slight incision is made from the back of the ear and the angles made by the cartilage structures that give the ear its shape are changed. Calculations are made according to the measurements made before the surgery and changes are made to the folding and bending angles. Ear aesthetic surgery can take an average of 2 to 3 hours. After shaping the ear appropriately, the process is terminated by stitching the appropriate stitches. In ear aesthetics, the aesthetic stitches are applied so that they disappear later, and the stitches are on the back of the ear, that is, the invisible part.

Who Is Ear Aesthetics Performed?

Ear aesthetics can be done to anyone who is uncomfortable with the shape and structure of their ear. All children and adults are patients for whom this operation can be performed if their doctor deems it appropriate. However, in order for pediatric patients to undergo this operation, the permission and consent of their parents is required.

What are the Points to Consider After Ear Aesthetic Surgery?

The recovery process after ear aesthetic surgery is quite simple. First, you are discharged from the hospital with a bandage that you can remove from your head in a few days. If the doctor deems it necessary, this bandage can stay on your head for up to a week. You can take a shower the day you remove the dressing. Even if there is slight bruising and swelling, you can see the result as soon as you open the dressing. It is enough to use a hair band for two weeks while going to bed.
